Construction and Renovations

3 Construction Systems

For new buildings or extensions, the following are construction systems that represent the perfect solution for those who believe in the traditional use of brick, in the use of advanced brick technology, and are looking for optimal seismic resistance, as well as for those who believe in sustainable cellular concrete, which is more performant than standard concrete.

Traditional masonry with reinforced concrete frame

The most well-known system. Reinforced concrete load-bearing frame, brick infill. The main difference between construction from the 1960s and current construction lies in adapting the most modern construction and energy criteria.

This results in a traditional system, but evolved with the latest technologies, making it seismic-resistant, cool in summer, and warm in winter.

Reinforced masonry

No reinforced concrete frame, no other materials to divide the space. The iron reinforcement is placed between the various courses, both horizontally and vertically, followed by a layer of mortar.

This system is completely seismic-resistant, highly effective from both a thermal (summer-winter) perspective, and the block used is typically REI240.

Cellular concrete

Autoclaved aerated concrete Ytong is part of lightweight concrete and consists of the same materials as traditional concrete but with the addition of air, making it porous and hygroscopic. Ytong blocks are characterized by a high thermal insulation capacity, making them the ideal solution for the construction of external walls without the need for additional insulation. Depending on the type of masonry, load-bearing or non-load-bearing, the thickness, and the degree of insulation required, different types of blocks can be chosen.

Whether it’s infill or load-bearing masonry, Ytong offers single-layer wall systems in line with modern energy-saving requirements.

The choice between the different systems should be evaluated based on the requirements for the walls, including thermal, seismic, acoustic, etc.
